Physiotherapists and physicians suggest that pregnant women should engage in exercise during pregnancy. Exercises during pregnancy could be in form of normal daily activities or specific tasks with moderate intensity.
Pregnant women needed to be assessed for physical fitness to prevent complications that could arise due to pregnancy. There are lot of factors that come to play for fitness in pregnant women such as adequate nutrition, effective antenatal care, personal care, etc. However, exercise is a major factor to be considered when it comes to fitness among pregnant women.
Benefits of exercise during pregnancy

- It prepares the body system for labour
- It prevents complications during pregnancy as well as in labour
- It keeps the mother fit during and after pregnancy
Examples of exercise done in pregnancy
As earlier stated, normal daily activities could be a form of exercise like simple house chores, walking, cooking, grooming etc.
Other form of exercises includes swimming, squatting, pelvic exercises, bridging, gluteal stretch, quadriceps stretch, brisk walking etc.
In conclusion, exercises are very beneficial during pregnancy but should be done under supervision. Rigorous exercises should be avoided and pregnant women with contraindications to exercises should stay away from exercising.
